Choosing earlier

You do not have to wait until the well is dry, resentment grows, or your spirit has to scream.

That's usually how it goes, though. You give quietly for a long time, telling yourself it's fine, it's manageable, it's just what this season requires. And it is, right up until it isn't. Until the well runs dry and what's left in its place is resentment: toward the person, the situation, sometimes toward yourself for staying so long past the point where you first felt the cost.

By the time your spirit is screaming, you're not choosing anymore. You're reacting. And reaction rarely looks like the woman you actually are. It looks like someone finally boiling over after holding too much for too long, which is not the same as someone making a clear, grounded choice.

Choosing earlier means catching it before the well runs dry. Before resentment has time to take root. Before your spirit has to raise its voice to get your attention, because you were already listening at a normal volume.

That earlier moment is quiet. It doesn't feel urgent. It's just a small, honest recognition: this is costing me something, and I notice it now, while I still have the clarity to choose instead of the exhaustion that forces my hand.

This week, practice listening at normal volume. Your spirit shouldn't have to scream to be heard by you.
